Knownhost Web Hosting Review

Today I’m excited to share my first hosting review. Let me preface this article by saying I’m not being paid anything to write this article. I’m not even including any affiliate links to make money if you decide to sign-up, this is completely unbiased through and through.

We’re going to take a look at Knownhost today, a personal favorite of mine and where WP Cover currently resides. I stumbled across Knownhost through a friend after being unhappy with both LiquidWeb and HostGator for various reasons. I was willing to give them a go and decided to make the switch. Almost four years later, I’ve never been happier with a hosting company. Knownhost is not just another hosting company. You should first understand that they do not do shared hosting plans. So if you’re looking for a host to run your website for $4.95/month, you should look elsewhere. Knownhost specializes in traditional VPS packages, SSD VPS packages, and managed dedicated servers. I’ve personally had experience with all three services and in general they all have the same features that set them apart from the competition. Let’s dive in:

1. Customer Service – This has got to be the first thing mentioned. They are impeccable at solving client issues quickly (under ten minutes on average) and will even go above and beyond to assist with issues that are outside of the realm of hosting (DNS, website security, etc.). Some may be turned off by the fact that they don’t offer phone or live chat support. This has never been an issue for me and it’s actually how I prefer it. I would much rather have a tech respond to me in five minutes with an update on my issue rather than sitting on hold for five minutes on the phone while they look into it. I can continue to get work done, update my clients, etc. while knowing Knownhost is working diligently in the background.

2. Server Uptime – They are the best in the business. They have a 99.9% uptime guarantee and provide credit if they were ever to miss (see screenshot below).

I can tell you in the last four years with Knownhost, there has been two network outages related to the data center in Texas. While both issues did involve a brief outage, they were quick to keep customers updated and you could tell work was being done to resolve the matter. As you can see from the screenshot below, Knownhost has the second highest uptime at 99.991%, beating out the likes of Amazon, Media Temple and many more:

3. Price – Knownhost is priced well for their level of support and complete management. Managed dedicated servers start at $179/month and you can even get a $100 credit on your first month by entering promo code KHDEDI2016.

4. Control Panel – All the dedicated servers and VPS systems I’ve run through Knownhost have utilized cPanel/WHM. No complaints here, easy to use, well known, and reliable.

Overall, you won’t find a more reliable hosting company for running a VPS or dedicated server. Knownhost is not going to deliver your WordPress specific hosting like you might find with other providers but if you know your way around cPanel/WHM & PHPMyAdmin then you will have no problems running your single WordPress install or adding your clients websites.  I’ve powered very large sites on Knownhost dedicated servers including Two Way Resume and Dock Skipper.
